The CBH/SAA State Broadhead
Broadhead Championship A Big Hit!
If something is worth doing good once then getting to do it twice makes perfectly good sense. So it was for the 171 archers that turned out for the 2016 CBH/SAA State Broadhead Championship on Memorial Day Weekend at the home of the Lodi Bowmen. The range was impeccable and the club vowed to work hard to improve on their stellar 2015 event… and so they did
They served a fantastic barbecue tri-tip dinner on Saturday night to benefit the CBH Legislative Defense Fund. They had golf carts and ATV’s at the ready to shuttle shooters into the back country and back. Club members were so hospitable that it seemed like no one was a stranger! Even the weather was perfect.
The Big Game Club provided 3-D targets to fill the range for a two-day, 42-targets each day, one arrow, unmarked event using California legal hunting broadheads. When the dust cleared Joe Frater was the tallest man standing as he bested the Adult Male Release division with the high score for the weekend. Sandy McCain for the women and Gary McCain for the men were once again named Broadhead Champions for shooting the highest score in the non-sighted styles shooting from the longest stakes. Joe Wylie won the $10,000.00 grand prize in the big Saturday night drawing and CBH President Wayne Raupe swept all of the special drawing awards by selling the winning ticket to Joe and by having another of the tickets he sold win the seller’s drawing.
Mabel and Don Ison once again turned up with a large contingent of their kids, some of whom have been around long enough that they are now in the adult divisions. The Riverside Archery contingency was resplendent in their colorful shooting shirts. The ever-smiling Louie Rangel was a welcome sight as well! Ed Fanchin was not able to be there this year having moved to Arizona but was well represented by Brent Miller and his gang in their custom t-shirt acknowledgment to Ed.
Everyone left with smiles on their faces and promises to be back next year. If you have never been to a Broadhead then you won’t want to be absent next Memorial Day Weekend when we all meet up again.
